Private drum lessons for children from age 6 to adult beginners. Specialist teachers guide you from holding the sticks and sitting correctly, to coordinating two hands and two feet, to playing rock, pop, and jazz grooves and sitting Trinity or RSL Rockschool grade exams.

Drum lessons are one-on-one drum kit tuition with a professional teacher. Playing drums demands coordinating four limbs at once: two hands play the snare, hi-hat, toms, and cymbals, while two feet drive the bass drum and hi-hat pedal. The material covers posture and stick grip, rudiments (foundational stroke patterns), grooves and keeping time, reading drum notation, and fills and dynamics. Available for children from age 6 through adult beginners, with in-person lessons at home or online via Zoom.

The five most common drum obstacles, why they happen, and how our teachers fix them from the start
Why it happens
When excited, students tend to speed up unconsciously because they have not yet built a stable internal clock.
How we fix it
Regular practice with a metronome and beat subdivision, until the student can feel and hold a steady tempo without rushing.
Why it happens
The brain is not yet used to commanding four limbs with different patterns at the same time, a challenge unique to drums.
How we fix it
Breaking the pattern down to two limbs first (say right hand with foot), slowly, then adding layers once each is automatic.
Why it happens
Students hold the sticks rigidly like a clench, losing the natural rebound so the hands tire quickly.
How we fix it
Training a relaxed grip with a fulcrum at the fingers, using the stick's rebound so strokes are light yet powerful.
Why it happens
The weaker hand and foot are rarely trained, so the groove sounds lopsided and fills stutter.
How we fix it
Dedicated practice for the weaker side through rudiments like double strokes and paradiddles, so both sides balance out.
Why it happens
Students are tempted to copy complex fills from videos when the basic groove and tempo are not yet solid.
How we fix it
Teachers make sure the groove and time feel are solid first, then add fills that are musical and fit the song.
A single drum kit can speak many musical languages. Our teachers build groove foundations from assertive rock to swinging jazz, each with one simple thing you can try at home for that style.
Tempo: 100-140 BPM
Assertive and powerful
Signature Pattern
Snare on beats 2 and 4 (backbeat), tight hi-hat playing eighth notes, bass drum on beats 1 and 3.
Key Technique
A solid, consistent backbeat from start to finish.
Try at Home
Count 1-2-3-4 while clapping exactly on beats 2 and 4 until it feels automatic.
Tempo: 90-130 BPM
Clean and easy to follow
Signature Pattern
A simple groove that lets the vocal shine, steady hi-hat, with light fills marking song-section changes.
Key Technique
Keeping the groove clean and never overplaying.
Try at Home
Play the basic groove through one whole song without adding a single fill.
Tempo: 120-220 BPM (swing)
Swinging and fluid
Signature Pattern
A swing ride cymbal pattern leads, the hi-hat foot closes on beats 2 and 4, snare and bass fill spontaneously (comping).
Key Technique
A sense of swing and right-hand independence on the ride.
Try at Home
Sing 'spang, spang-a-lang' along with your right-hand strokes on the ride cymbal.
Tempo: 90-120 BPM
Biting via ghost notes
Signature Pattern
Sixteenth-note hi-hat with soft snare ghost notes, a syncopated bass drum locking in a spacious groove.
Key Technique
Ghost notes and left-hand dynamic control.
Try at Home
Practise a loud snare on the backbeat, then very soft in between, to feel the contrast.
Tempo: 90-130 BPM
Flowing and joyful
Signature Pattern
The clave pattern is the foundation; bossa nova and samba grooves demand dense hand-foot coordination.
Key Technique
Coordinating the clave pattern with an independent foot.
Try at Home
Clap a 3-2 clave repeatedly until you know it by heart before moving it to the kit.
Tempo: 100-140 BPM
Familiar to the local ear
Signature Pattern
The signature kendang accents are moved onto the toms and snare, fitting Indonesian pop and the energetic dangdut rhythm.
Key Technique
Adapting local percussion patterns onto the drum kit.
Try at Home
Listen to the kendang accompaniment of a song, then imitate its accents on the toms and snare.
There is no need to master every style at once. Teachers adjust to the music the student loves, yet the backbeat and timekeeping foundation is always built first.

Our drum students' journeys, from hands and feet that would not cooperate to becoming the drummer who keeps a whole band's time
My son Kenzo is very energetic and loves banging on everything at home. Instead of forbidding it, we channelled it into drum lessons. His teacher patiently organised his hand-foot coordination. Now after a year his energy has an outlet and he can play a basic rock groove neatly.

I wanted to join the campus band as a drummer but my hand-foot coordination was a mess. The EduPoint teacher trained me slowly with a metronome, from backbeat to fills. Within a year I made the campus band and performed at the graduation event.

At 35 I decided to learn drums to relieve work stress. At first I doubted I still could, but it turned out to be so much fun. My teacher taught from zero patiently. Now every weekend I play grooves to my favourite rock songs, and a week's stress just melts away.

My son Arka is shy and struggles to focus. We tried drum lessons on a therapist's suggestion. It turned out that practising coordination and keeping time helped his focus develop. The teacher truly understood Arka's needs. Now he is more confident and loves showing off his new grooves.

I am a fill-in drummer for community events but often rushed the tempo on fast songs. Private lessons with my EduPoint teacher fixed my internal clock through subdivision and metronome practice. Now my playing is far steadier and the band feels more solid.
