Brief History

Universitas Internasional Batam was born on 23 August 2000 through Ministry of National Education Decree No. 160/D/O/2000, an initiative of the Indonesian Chinese Community Foundation (YMTI) of Batam City to deliver quality higher education to the Batam Island community. Early campus was at Engku Putri, Batam Center, before permanently relocating to Jl. Gajah Mada, Sei Ladi in 2003. Prof. Handoko Kartjantoro led UIB for 17 years (2002-2019), establishing foundations and building 32 international partnerships across Southeast and East Asia. The baton passed to Dr. Iskandar Itan, S.E., M.M. for the 2019-2024 period, focusing on international accreditation and ISO 9001:2015 plus ISO 21001:2018 certifications. The peak came on 1 October 2025 when UIB officially became the first private university in Riau Islands Province to receive Excellent accreditation from BAN-PT.

Register in the first December wave to pay only IDR 5 million building fee; waiting until June's wave 4 jumps the fee to IDR 10.5 million for the same program and USM score

4

Choose UIB's Accounting program if you want the ACCA pathway straight from undergrad; UIB is the only Batam campus with an official ACCA partnership

5

For Medicine (new program 2025), monitor admission.uib.ac.id directly because slots are limited and accreditation is still Good as it awaits upgrade

6

Use the online USM path if you live outside Batam so you don't need to travel; the full process from test to interview can be done remotely via Google Meet

7

Take advantage of 1-2 week exchange programs to Singapore or Malaysia starting in semester 3; Batam's geographic edge keeps ferry costs relatively affordable

8

Connect with UIB Alumni Association (IKA UIB) before graduation for networking with alumni at Free Trade Zone Batam and Singapore-based companies

Frequently Asked Questions

Is UIB a public or private university, and what is its reputation in Riau Islands?
UIB is a Private University (PTS) established by the Indonesian Chinese Community Foundation in 2000. Since 1 October 2025, UIB has become the first private university in Riau Islands Province to receive BAN-PT Excellent accreditation, making it the most prestigious campus in Batam and across Riau Islands.
What is the total 4-year tuition cost at UIB for Management or Accounting programs?
Estimated 8-semester total for Management/Accounting ranges from IDR 75-120 million depending on admission wave and USM score. The breakdown: one-time IDR 5-10.5 million building fee, per-semester base BPP, credit-based course fees, and IDR 2.5 million PPL for certain programs.
How can I apply to UIB from outside Batam without visiting campus?
UIB offers a full online admission path at pendaftaran.uib.ac.id for applicants outside Batam. The entire process from registration, USM fee payment, 90-120 minute Computer-Based Test, to 5-10 minute faculty interview is done remotely via online platforms and Google Meet.
What does the 100% Cemerlang Scholarship require at UIB and is the USM test mandatory?
Cemerlang Scholarship requires a minimum 85 high school grade average AND a USM score ranked 1-10 nationally at UIB. Candidates must still take the USM even through the scholarship path. Coverage: 100% SPP, base BPP, credit fees, and practicum fees through undergrad graduation.
Why does UIB offer international partnerships with so many overseas campuses?
UIB has a strategic position: Batam is only 20 km from Singapore and 25 km from Johor Malaysia by ferry. UIB leverages this with 32 partner campuses in Southeast and East Asia for affordable 1-2 week exchange programs, giving international exposure without expensive flight tickets.
Is UIB's Medical Faculty open for enrollment and how large is the quota?
Medicine, Medical Profession, and Dental Science are new UIB programs officially operational in 2025, so accreditation is still Good rather than Excellent like older programs. Per-cohort quota is limited to around 50-100 students per program, with USM top scores plus rigorous interviews.
