pendaftaran.uib.ac.idUniversitas Internasional Batam was born on 23 August 2000 through Ministry of National Education Decree No. 160/D/O/2000, an initiative of the Indonesian Chinese Community Foundation (YMTI) of Batam City to deliver quality higher education to the Batam Island community. Early campus was at Engku Putri, Batam Center, before permanently relocating to Jl. Gajah Mada, Sei Ladi in 2003. Prof. Handoko Kartjantoro led UIB for 17 years (2002-2019), establishing foundations and building 32 international partnerships across Southeast and East Asia. The baton passed to Dr. Iskandar Itan, S.E., M.M. for the 2019-2024 period, focusing on international accreditation and ISO 9001:2015 plus ISO 21001:2018 certifications. The peak came on 1 October 2025 when UIB officially became the first private university in Riau Islands Province to receive Excellent accreditation from BAN-PT.
