Debit means money in, credit means money out
Why it happens
Students equate debit-credit with cash direction.
How we fix it
Debit and credit depend on the account type. Assets increase on the debit side, while liabilities and equity increase on the credit side.
Profit equals cash in hand
Why it happens
Students think profit means more cash.
How we fix it
Profit is measured on an accrual basis and differs from cash. A firm can be profitable yet low on cash due to receivables.
The journal and the ledger are the same
Why it happens
